New Restaurant Model: Steaks

The following is an excerpt from my book Research and Advice (2026). Get a copy today!

A great idea for a food truck is calling it “Steaks,” just serving various cuts of steak, chicken, fish, and pork with bread rolls, at an affordable price. Steakhouses are ridiculously expensive, often charging three to five times the supermarket price for the exact same quality and quantity. By beating their prices, people will flock to you.

At the end of the day, people need protein. What’s annoying about restaurants is they tend to serve little protein, lots of sodium, lots of saturated fats, and then they charge you four to five times what you would pay for let’s say 50–100 grams of meat protein from the supermarket. And be sure they are not serving USDA Prime unless they advertise and “shout it” practically. If it’s silent, you are getting USDA Choice. And by the way, Prime Rib does not mean USDA Prime, it’s just the name of the cut; so it would be Prime Prime Rib.

A fantastic business idea is basically a setup where it’s just grills and a dining area: you can bring your meat cuts, cook them, and eat there. So the restaurant operates like a self-checkout, in the sense where you have a few employees monitoring and making sure people are using the stoves safely. You just an entrance fee, grill you meats, then go sit down and eat. People love eating out for the atmosphere and the social aspect, but the prices have gotten out of hand, and it’s not like you are getting quality and sufficient quantity of protein. This is also fun because it causes people to engage in the cooking process, which is perfect for life-skills and friendship, and it also makes a date night fun. This restaurant model will solve all those issues. I would call it, “Grill and Chill” or simply “Steaks.”
